SIX

 Origins

Six is a British musical that is a modern retelling of King Henry VIII's six wives lives and what it was like being the kings wife. It is presented as a pop concert where the wives take turns singing and telling their story to see who suffered the most due to Henry to decide who should become the group's lead singer. It was written by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss in the Summer of 2017 and was first preformed by the Cambridge University Musical Theater Society at Edinburgh Fringe. Songs:
The song above is the opening to the musical it is called Ex-Wives I choose this song to feature all the original performers of this song. It allows each of them to showcase there talents. On the choruses the group harmonizes very well. Then it gets broken into pieces where each of the group sings there part of the song. Showcasing each of their vocal ranges and tones. Some of the women have deep, rich voices, some have a slightly more raspy sound and some have smooth clear voices. Then the group starts singing a new verse that starts to bring up the energy up even more. Each of the performers give their own flair to the song. I feel they all really embody the character they are playing.

The Two songs above are The Hous of Holbein This song comes in at the middle of the musical. I listen to this song all the time and I often forget that the singers are the same as in the other songs. The accents and the way they sing is very different then the way the performers present themselves throughout the rest of the musical. The whole song is different it has a techno vibe to it and the women all sing with an accent.

My Opinions:
I love this musical. I know all the lyrics to all the songs and they regularly get stuck in my head. I have learned a lot about King Henry and his wives because of this musical but this was the first time I looked deeper into the performers. It was so cool to learn there backgrounds. I also listened to songs done by different group that aren't the original six that recorded he album. it throws me and really showed me what I like about the different performances of the same song.

  1. Listening to the two songs is giving me the same reaction, it's amazing how they sound so different in the songs, the combination of history with the popular music like this, I hadn't imagined to work out so well! The style of their performance is captivating, especially in Ex-Wives, they way they told the story in song reminded me of them old Disney movies with the song numbers. That's how cool it was, as if it wasn't real! Wish the post could have included more examples of the music elements though, or at least slightly clearer examples.
